April Fool's came late

OK, missed lessons today. Going in the afternoon to see patients though, I need to follow up on a couple of them, and also on one of my writeup patients who is in NUH right now. =
Anyway, I played VERY nasty pranks on people today! I went past the garden and saw, to my great delight, that the Voodoo Lily has flowered at last! Now, these arums are weird - they go into dormancy each year and lose all their vegetative structures, becoming a bulb (which I bought in Chicago for $3). When next planted, a single flower spike comes up, flowers, dies then leaves grow again.

SO. These devilish plants have a really, really awful smell. I can't really describe it - someone online said, "it smells like a dozen wet socks sitting in the corner and mildewing". I think, however, it smells like a mixture of wet gangrene, purulent secretions and fresh vomit.

I gave it to my mom to smell, and she's used to me giving her nice fragrant stuff from the garden to smell - so, my poor mother went within 1 inch of the flower and took a deep, heartening whiff. MUAHAHAHAHA ... The result? She ended up sputtering, retching and getting red in the face! The same applied for xuan and mariah! hahahaha .. they really should have known better, there were dozens of blowflies clustering around the plant!

Of course, the only person who's really enjoying the plant is Brownie - having hell of a time chasing the flies. Took pictures, but not uploaded yet.
