Blogger's been acting up lately - down for one whole night. Yx is getting hysterical over her work and screaming at the computer. PSY case.
Anyway, discovered a most exciting band - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy! I can't imagine HOW I've never heard of them before. Got some
samples of their work from ballroomdancers.com, and it was good. Just got to love the vintage album covers, for one thing.

They do 1940s big band era swing music, with a very bold style that sets them apart from many others. Liberal use of thumping basses, good lead vocals with a right balance of gruffness and depth, and very abrupt, striking but smooth transitions betweeen musical styles. Oooh ... the piece, "Stray Cat Strut" has got to be one of their best works! For some reason it's an unreleased track that was performed live, and it's got a certain sleekness to it. Not to mention the fact that they did quite the impossible - seamlessly slotting in a stanza of music from Pink Panther's Theme right into the middle of a swing piece.
OK, enough ranting. I really shall buy their albums if I can find them in HMV. Highly doubt it, but still worth a try.
