A New Day ...No, I'm not going to talk about today. It's 6am in the morning and the situation's getting really odd. Somewhat slightly desperate, and somewhat recklessly abandoning all hope.
I managed to download the TV intro of Celine's new show at the Caesar's Palace in Las Vagas, where she'll be staying put for the next 2 years or so. Now, at first when I heard of the news, it was great disappointment. I thought she went into some cranky semi-acting spree that would have undermined her vocal talents, but after seeing the video ... WOW.
To put it simply, it was a mega-concert. It was magic. It was unbelievable.
Ever seen elaborate MTVs with weird special effects? Take for example Spice Girls' "Viva Forever", with the little sprites flying around;
Ever seen MTVs set in the heart of urban life with time-lapsed effects of people going at ultra-fast speeds in the background? Take for example Madonna's "Ray of Light";
Ever seen spectacular scenic and semi-magical MTV shots? Take for example Delta Goodrem's "Not Me, Not I".
Celine's new concert has it all. The effects are so WOW .. I don't even know how they did it! It's a theatrical miracle. There's got to be a dozen fly-bars up there. At one point in time she was singing "The First Time", a really slow sensual ballad, and she started levitating ever so gracefully. Even strings couldn't do that ... the finale of the song - a piercing shaft of light punches through, and she drifts upwards all the way up into nothingness.

And somehow the sets were crazy. They managed to put Chicago into the arena! That was during the piece, "I'm Alive". I think about 50 dancers were in the background, walking around the "offices" at an unbelievable speed. And suddenly everyone (who were in white) froze, and Celine (in red) walked between them. It was just so surreal .. like a digitally-modified scene you see in X-men 2 where Professor X stopped time.

Now, I really do want to catch the show ... SIGH. I'll NEVER get the chance to. Unless ... unless I do my electives somewhere in the states? It's a show definitely worth paying for .. damn, if ever I had the chance, I'd kill for the front-row seats. She went down to kiss one of her audience, the lucky prat.

Incidentally, is Justin Timerlake one of her fans? I vaguely remember him saying so once ... but anyway he was MC'ing the TV special for her. I wanna, I wanna, I wanna!!!
One last parting shot .. one of those impossible things they did on the show - lovely stringwork!
