The wheelchair

We can go for all the cofm lectures we want, but literally, "a picture speaks a thousand words".

Succumbing to my sister's enthusiasm, I took 2 hours off for some skating tonight. The practice rink was relatively free of twittering ice-skaters, so I lingered there for a while.

Then I saw them. A late-teenage guy, around 18 or so, in a wheelchair. His brother (I presume) was wearing inline skates and standing behind him. Judging by his wasted leg muscles which weren't as thin as was expected if he had been born handicapped, I presume he once knew how to walk. His facies didn't look exactly normal though, so I hold some reservation over my presumption.

Later, while skating back to the car, I saw them again. Brother was skating behind and pushing the wheelchair, and the front wheels were studded with these multiple multicolour LED lights. It was this scene, a bittersweet snapshot. If he guy could indeed rationalise ever so normally, I wonder if he'd ever see the irony in this. 2 perfectly normal people flitting past him on wheels. I wonder. Heartache?
