Yep, it's Sat evening already. All alone again, I guess.
Was reading this female paramedic's blog, directed from kenneth's webpage. Ah, I'm so envious of him! Actually on second thoughts, not really ... it's really quite public enough having a blog. I'll freak out to see everything spilling out on a dedicated website. Although, it'll be really cool to set up a useful site. One where years and years down the road it'll never get old enough to help people in some way or other. But things never happen this way - everything once begun require at least the smallest push of effort to keep them going. I guess, it's better to simplify life for now. It's gotten a tad too exciting for the last 5 years, I deem.
Dad gave me a very bad fright today. He's usually a strict person but jolly, but today he totally lashed out at this man. Not that the man didn't deserve it of course, but it was really jolting. The story. The car didn't pass inspection due to black exhaust smoke, even though dad had it fixed less than a month ago at the car dealer's. So, mom and I drove it back to the dealer's to have it fixed. We told the guy that it didn't pass inspection, and he tried to shake off the blame by saying that this model should have been inspected 1 or 2 days after servicing so as to pass the test. Huh .. is that some form of confession that your cars last only 2 or 3 days before they start emitting smoke?
Well, dad called to speak to the man, and at first the man sounded confident and started yakking that he was sure they did a thorough job on the car the previous time, 1 month ago. After 5 minutes or so, my dad hung up. After 5 seconds or so, my dad APPEARED at the car dealer's. Wow ... how sleek was that?! Apparently he was already giving the man a sound scolding while driving there.
Now, there were about 10 people in that office (customers waiting for their cars to be done), and my dad really gave the man hell. Basically dad wanted him to guarantee that after this current servicing, the vehicle WILL pass the inspection. Which, I thought, was reasonable. If you claim to do thorough and good jobs, you'd take up the challenge without hesitation. You'd even increase the wagger on it.
Honestly, it was the shades of business at work. He could have made hell of a career as a litigator. I wasn't the one being chided, yet I felt really scared .. well I could only imagine the guy who was cowering in his seat trying not to look too intimidated by his own lack of defence and proof of good workmanship.
In the end, the car dealer's had to fix my car over the weekend and THEY drive it for inspection and THEY make sure they fix it till it passes. Damn! =D Of course, I think all the other customers were a little scared too .. when I went outside the office, one of them confronted me and asked me which model I bought. Then he looked stricken and said, oh no! he bought TWO of the same model! And I started telling him about the noisy brakes (which he identified with, being a victim himself) and about the black smoke.
I think dad really shook at least a couple of prospective car-buyers today. Well .. the dealer's had it coming. He bought the car and was promised performance, and he expects it to perform. They gave sloppy work, and now they pay the price for it.
