Posts on aquaria back up on my old blog, it was way too long and irrelevant to write down here. So, bottom line is - my chair's cushion is now indented as I've been standing on my ass the whole day. Either reading articles or writing articles or spending relax time dreaming up a dream tank. Ah, and I just remembered something interesting, in addition to my blog about today's Xenia frag-acquiring enterprise in the old blog.
3 of us old-time reefers were chatting (I only know Dewei personally) and I was horrified to learn that a certain prominent reefer actually is a gross person. His tank was featured in america's Reef Central as Tank of The Month, but according to one of them, he is actually so stinking rich he buys new corals all the time to replace the old, that's why his tank is so colourful even under T5s. AFAIK I've seen Acroporidae corals thrive well under T5 flourescent lighting, but definitely not to the extent of that particular reefer's pictures. I've seen reefers with pristine water quality and 3 x 400W Radium metal halides on Blueline ballasts, and only then do they develop such colours or keep their natural colouration instead of fading away. But it does make sense - this particular person goes on romps each and every shipment and makes arrangements to reserve certain prime corals, but how can you keep buying when your tank is only 6 feet long? Hmmm. Now that does make sense now.
I'm quite glad I'm so detached from the local reefing community - I do what I want, what I think is nice, and of course there's always my trusted QC Manager (yx) to prevent me from making the mortal sin of buying drab corals. (me: "Hey!! Does this look orange to you?" Yx: "Don't you buy it, it's drab brown!!" me:"Oh .. but it's a different shade of brown what" yx: drags me away from the brown coral) I've got my tank filled with the scum of earth (Xenia) and I love them to the bone! =D
Alright .. enough of blogging, although I'm trying to put off re-starting on the report for as long as possible. Oh yes ... did a lot of husbandry today, more of organisation than anything.
